Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice is the second book to be published ( 1813). From surviving correspondence, it seemed to have been like a child for Austen.

It's certainly one of the most read and loved of her books nowadays.

Elizabeth and Jane Bennet, as the eldest of five daughters, need to marry well if they do not want to be homeless after their father's death. Cue the arrival in town of two very rich young gentlemen: Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy. Whereas Bingley is amiable and soon in love with Jane, Darcy is cold and haughty to the point that Elizabeth vows never to love nor marry him...
